Tag is played by names familiar and strange by a seemingly infinite assortment of rules. It is through such a ritual many of us are first introduced to our strengths, weaknesses and identities. All over the world we play it and have our own ways, names and stories surrounding it.
This short film attempts to capture the essence of this overlooked part of each of us.
The film’s running time is equivalent to the estimated average length of a game of tag: ~22 minutes.
Allow our own memories to wash over us as we spend a few moments with experts from the Jane Goodall Institute, the Anthropology Department at the University of Minnesota and the International Play Association, as they discuss the essential role play has in our development as a culture and as individuals. Let the sights and sounds of play reconnect us with our capacity for it – a catalyst leading us to “bootstrap moments” of whimsy, creation and discovery.
Keep playing.
